This week's reading recommendation: The Maid by Nita Prose!
What an amazing surprise this one was! While I work with nonfiction every day in my professional life, when it comes time for reading "after hours," I usually reach for a thriller/mystery/suspense title.
The Maid is a smash hit, a Good Morning America book, and so on. I had just finished reading The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden, so I incorrectly assumed it would be similar.
The Maid is a mystery (the eponymous maid discovers a body at a swish hotel and soon finds herself in the frame for it), but the puzzle feels like the least important part of the story. Molly is such a compelling character, and the writing is just so good, that the whodunnit almost feels like an afterthought. I even found myself bawling multiple times while reading.
I am so rarely surprised by books, and this was such a welcome journey. I wish it had gone on forever.
